Mecca crane crash takes lives of 5 Iranian pilgrims

Tehran, Sept 13, IRNA Head of Hajj medical corpse of Irans Red Crescent Society Ali Marashi said the number of Iranian pilgrims to lose their lives in Mecca crane crash catastrophe rose to five.

Talking to IRNA on Sunday, he said bodies of four Iranian pilgrims were identified in Mecca morgue last night.
One Iranian pilgrim lost life on the spot on Friday when a huge crane crashed into the Grand Mosque - the largest in the world - that was filled with worshippers at the time.
The official said seven Iranian pilgrims are still missing.
32 other Iranian pilgrims were injured in the accident, he added.
Earlier, an Iranian Red Crescent Society said that most of the injured Iranian pilgrims who had suffered slight injuries were treated in Iran Hospital.
After the crash incident, Iran Health Ministry expressed readiness to dispatch a medical team to treat the wounded in Mecca and receive the injured in the Iranian hospitals.
According to reports, well over 100 people were killed in the incident on Friday afternoon.
Most of the dead are from Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Iran's medical delegations are serving the Iranians and non-Iranians who were injured in the event.
A total of 61,000 Iranian pilgrims are in Saudi Arabia for Haj rituals.
The head of Saudi Arabia's civil defense said strong winds and heavy rains had caused the collapse.
Mecca is currently preparing for the annual Muslim Hajj pilgrimage.
Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to arrive in the Saudi city from all over the world later this month.
President Hassan Rouhani said the incident was a source of distress for the whole Islamic Ummah.
