Berlin sees Iran deal as 'window of opportunity' for Mideast diplomacy

Berlin, Sep 11, IRNA - Germany regards the Iranian nuclear agreement as a 'window of opportunity' for settling other Mideast crisis hotspots, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Martin Schaefer told the press in Berlin on Friday.

Asked by IRNA about Iran's diplomatic efforts in helping to resolve Middle East conflicts, Schaefer noted, Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has repeatedly said that the July 14 nuclear accord provides hope for a new approach in the region as well as a 'window of opportunity' for solving other difficult conflicts in the Mideast, including Syria.

The July 14 agreement has revived these communication channels to talk openly on issues of mutual concern on the basis of new relations between Tehran and Berlin. The Iran visit by Foreign Minister Steinmeier serves this objective to use these new possibilities for open and frank talks, Schaefer added.

Steinmeier is to embark on the trip to the Islamic Republic following an invitation by his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif, according to Schaefer.
