Navy continues support for Iranian ships in int'l waters

Zahedan, Sistan-Baluchestan, Sep 10, IRNA Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said on Thursday that the navy would continue its support for Iranian ships in the international waters.

Speaking during his visit to the Makran seashore, he noted that presence of naval forces in the region is promising.

He referred to presence of Iran's naval forces in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean, adding that safe presence of Iranian ships in the international waters is due to powerful presence of naval forces there.

The official noted that the naval forces would continue their mission in the international seas against priacy.

Makran is a semi-desert coastal strip in the south of Sindh and Balochistan, in Pakistan and Iran, along the coast of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. The name Makran derives from Maka, borne by an overlapping satrapy of the Achaemenid Empire.

Another, older derivation is from the Makar, or sea dragon, after the humpback whales or whale sharks that abound in the north Arabian Sea.
