Iranian DM lauds Navys homegrown destroyers, modern equipment

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan praised the domestically-made destroyers and other military products of the country's Navy, and said the spirit of self-sufficiency is among the characteristics of naval forces.

In his official trip to the countrys southern port city of Bandar Abbas, Brigadier General Dehghan visited the construction process of the Navys Jamaran-class destroyers, namely Sahand and Sina.

The ability to update and use modern technologies by employing the Iranian engineering, are among the features of the products of the Islamic Republic of Iran Navys factories, he noted during the visit.

Today, the Navy is one of the most important suppliers of military equipment and weaponry for defending our countrys boundaries, the commander said, adding that "the spirit of self-sufficiency, full obedience to the religious leadership and the thirst for knowledge" are among the characteristics of the staffers of the Navy.

Earlier last month, Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari had said that Irans newest destroyer Sahand is 70 percent complete and is expected to be launched within the next couple of months.

Sahand is the third destroyer produced as part of the Mowj (Wave) project, Sayyari said in a gathering of Iranian veterans in Tehran on August 16.

Sahands predecessors, Jamaran and Damavand, are currently in service .

In recent years, the Islamic Republic of Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and has attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

Tehran has repeatedly assured other nations that its military might poses no threat to other countries, saying that the Islamic Republics defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
