Daesh uses mustard gas in Iraq: Germany

GermanysFederal Intelligence Service (BND) said on Monday that it has collected evidence that the Takfiri group has used mustard gas against Kurdish fighters in northern Iraq.

German daily Bild quoted BND chief Gerhard Schindler as saying that the agency has "information that IS (Daesh) used mustard gas in northern Iraq."

It was said that Germany's foreign intelligence agency has reached the conclusion after collecting blood samples from Kurds injured in clashes with the terrorist group and examining them.

Iraqs al-Sumaria satellite TV network quoted a source as saying on condition of anonymity in February that the Daesh Takfiri group has taken hold of large quantities of chlorine gas after they launched an attackagainsta major water treatment facility in the countrys northern province of Nineveh.

The terrorists have taken the chemical agent from the provincial water department, and transferred it along with large quantities of mustard gas brought from Syria to one of their hideouts in the area, the source said.

The terrorists also overran an industrial area known as Kokjalilocated on the eastern side of the conflict-ridden city of Mosul, and started manufacturing rockets filled with chemical agents to use against Iraqi forces, the source added.

In December2014, themilitants attacked the city of Khan al-Baghdadi, situated about 180 kilometers (110 miles) northwest of the capitalBaghdad, with mortar shells loaded with chlorine gas.

The Takfiri militants also killed at least 300 Iraqi soldiers in a chlorine gas attack on an army battalion in Anbar province in September that year.

Daesh started its campaign of terror in Iraq in early June 2014. The heavily-armed militants took control of Mosul before sweeping through parts of the countrys Sunni Arab heartland.
