Rouhani, Atambayev stress establishment of regional rail corridor

Tehran, Sept 7, IRNA - Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev and President Hassan Rouhan in a joint statement released on Monday, stressed establishment of regional rail corridor to facilitate transportation and trade in the region.

The statement which was released after the end of Atambayev visit to Iran underlined the importance of establishment of Iran-Afghanistan-Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan-China rail corridor.

Kyrgyzstan welcomes presence of Iranian investors and traders, it added.

The statement emphasized that the two countries should increase contacts for planning a five years old cooperation plan.

Pointing to the fact that Kyrgyzstan has already joined the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), it called for more active role of Iranian investors and traders in the region.

The statement underlined the importance of re-establishment of direct flights between Iran and Kyrgyzstan and development of bilateral ties in fields of electricity production, communication, mining, oil and gas, agriculture, transportation, consular and tourism.

Kyrgyzstan supports full membership of Iran in Shanghai Cooperation Organization, it added.

President Rouhani on Saturday accepted invitation of Kyrgyz president to pay a visit to Kyrgyzstan.

Atambayev extended the invitation to President Rouhani in a meeting of the two presidents. The date has not been fixed yet for Kyrgyz visit of the Iranian president.

Atambayev arrived in Tehran on Friday evening at the top of a high ranking political-economic delegation aimed at evermore expansion of relations with Iran.
During his three-day stay here, Atambayev met with a number of Iranian officials.

As his first foreign visit, President Rouhani visited Bishkek in 2013, capital of Kyrgyzstan, to participate in Summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

According to the latest statistics, Iran-Kyrgyzstan trade balance stands at about 50 million dollars, which is projected to rise up to 2.5 billion in near future.
