Tehran, Aug 23, IRNA � A group of people not more than 40 gathered in front of British embassy on Sunday afternoon to protest visit of Britain's Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond to Iran and reopening British embassy.

Interior Ministry said that the protesters got no permission for the gathering.

The group disrupted law and order on the streets around the embassy and Jomhuri-e Islamic avenue, causing traffic jam.

Police asked protestors to leave the area, but finally arrested 10 of them.

The heavy traffic jam paralyzed the regular traffic in the area.

Director General for political and electoral affairs of Tehran Governorate Mohammad Reza Yousefi told IRNA that the gathering had no permission and no request had been submitted to the governorate in this concern.

He added that any kind of gathering in front of British embassy without coordination and agreement of Tehran governorate and necessary permission is illegal.

According to the law, political and election offices of the governorates are the sole authority to issue permission for every kind of gathering or demonstration.

Britain's Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond arrived in Tehran on Sunday morning to reopen British embassy here after four years closure.

Hammond is the first British foreign secretary who visit Tehran after 12 years.
