At present, seasoned Iranian diplomat, Mohammad Hossein Adeli, is secretary general of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum. He was elected by the energy ministers of GECF member states as the second secretary general of the forum in November 2013.
Unlike the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), whose main goal is to determine the supply and price of crude oil in international markets, GECFs main goal is to monitor global gas market and to facilitate exchange of information and experiences among member countries.
