Ansarullah advisor urges UN to press Riyadh to stop Yemen attacks

Geneva, Jun 18, IRNA - A top Ansarullah advisor called on the UN to press Riyadh to stop its military aggression in Yemen.

Ali Al-Emad made the remarks while talking to IRNA in Geneva, Switzerland, following his talks with UN special envoy on Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.

He said we hope the UN can force Saudi Arabia to stop its attacks on Yemen. Saudi Arabia is an enemy country. We welcome any steps by the UN to halt the Saudi assault.

Asked about prospects for a humanitarian ceasefire in Yemen, Al-Emad said this issue was the main focus of talks between the Ansar Allah delegation and UN special envoy on Yemen, Ismail Ould Sheikh Ahmad.

Today we started to speak about important things like the humanitarian pause and how to solve political problmes and differences in Yemen. We hope to find a good resolution, Al-Emad said.

Meanwhile, he warned of the mounting threat of Al-Qaeda in Yemen, saying it was also the topic of concern during the discussions in Geneva.

There is a problem called Al-Qaeda and we have to tackle it. The question is what will happen with Al-Qaeda, even if we do agree to a ceasefire. Al-Qaeda has announced it's part of the fighting in Yemen and we have to find first a solution to stop Qaeda in Yemen.

Al-Emad welcomed EU mediation efforts in the Yemen confict in Geneva.

We have no problem meeting with European ambassadors. In fact, we welcome their mediation efforts. We would be willing to meet them, if they make such a request, the Ansar Allah official said.

According to unconfirmed reports, several EU ambassadors, among them envoys from the Netherlands, Britain, France and Germany are planning to meet with the Ansar Allah delegation in Geneva on Thursday.
