TEHRAN (Tasnim) � Spokesman for Iran's Guardian Council (GC) said the body, along with the parliament, has the power to authorize adoption of any binding treaty, including a possible final deal on the country's nuclear program or the Additional Protocol of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Speaking to Tasnim on Wednesday, Nejatollah Ebrahimian underlined that any binding agreement, like the international treaties and conventions, need to be ratified by the parliament and endorsed by the Guardian Council.

"If the Additional Protocol (of the NPT) is to be adopted (by Iran), it will definitely need to be ratified by the parliament and overseen by the Guardian Council," he stated.

Ebrahimian noted that a comprehensive nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) will also have to be reviewed by the lawmakers and the Guardian Council.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (also known as P5+1 or E3+3) are in talks to hammer out a lasting accord that would end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran's peaceful nuclear program.

On April 2, the two sides reached a framework nuclear agreement in Lausanne, Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final deal until the end of June.

Diplomats from the two sides are now drafting the text of the final accord, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
