TEHRAN (Tasnim) � Iran's Aircraft Manufacturing Company (HESA) and Isfahan's Department of Environment signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation on using domestically-made drones in environmental protection.

The MoU was signed on Thursday on the sidelines of a gathering of Iranian environmental directors in Isfahan, central Iran, and is the first of its kind in the country.

According to the Managing Director of HESA Mohammad Ali Sirati, civilian drones manufactured in Iran are mainly used for locating illegal hunters and fishermen, detecting and observing wildfires or emergency incidents, and patrolling and protecting oil and gas pipelines.

Established in 1976, HESA belongs to the Iran Aviation Industries Organization (IAIO) and is located at Shahinshahr, Isfahan.

In recent years, the Islamic Republic has made great headway in aerospace industries, particularly the acquisition of the technology to manufacture indigenous drones.
