Zarif departs for Muscat

Tehran, May 26, IRNA - Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif left Tehran for Muscat on Tuesday morning to discuss bilateral relations.

He is scheduled to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments with his Omani counterpart Youssef bin Alawi bin Abdullah.

Zarif is expected to sign a maritime demarcation agreement with Omani officials.

Iran and Oman enjoy good relations and Tehran has close ties with Muscat among the six Persian Gulf littoral states.

Omans Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said was the first official guest of President Hassan Rouhani after the latter took office in August 2013.

Zarif is scheduled to depart for Kuwait City in the second leg of his regional tour on Wednesday.

He is due to discuss bilateral, regional and international issues with political officials of Kuwait during his visit.

Foreign minister will attend the 42nd annual meeting of foreign ministers of member states of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Kuwait City.

Zarif's visit to Oman and Kuwait is in line with the government's policy to expand bilateral and regional cooperation in confrontation with violence, extremism and peaceful settlement of crises in the region.
