Tehran, May 21, IRNA - UN Secretary Generals Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Valad Sheikh Ahmad on Thursday discussed latest regional developments with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
Iran expressed indignation at Saudi war of aggression on Yemen and appealed to the International Criminal Court to bring to justice the Saudi leaders for indiscriminate bombardment of Yemen and targeting civilian areas perpetrating cold-blood mass killing of innocent women and children.
The World Health Organization said that since March 19 the Saudi government initiated the air strikes on the Yemeni civilian targets hundreds of civilians are dead and thousands injured upon medical centers report in the capital city of Sanaa.
From 19 March to 13 May, conflicts in Yemen have claimed 1820 lives and left 7330 others injured, according to health facility-based reports, WHO said.
It is estimated that almost 16 million people in Yemen are currently in need of humanitarian assistance.
Insecurity in areas where conflict is ongoing is one of the key challenges impeding the provision of health care service delivery by humanitarian partners.
WHO said that it continues to monitor the provision of health with the Ministry of Public Health and Population through its operation room and provide urgent needs.
Zarif and Sheikh Ahmad discussed latest developments in Yemen and the ways to stem deterioration of the humanitarian situation.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was also present in the meeting.
The two officials condemned the violation of a ceasefire in Yemen and called for immediate shipment of humanitarian emergency supplies to the Yemeni people.
Amir-Abdollahian said that Iran supports talks with all Yemeni parties which would lead to a durable agreement overseen by the UN.
Ahmed, for his part, pointed to UN efforts to dispatch aid to the war-stricken people of Yemen and hoped that the aid will reach the destination in the matter of days.
On Tuesday Iran regretted the resumption of Saudi air strikes on Yemen.
Iranian foreign minister called on the United Nations to create a green zone in Yemen to allow the delivery of humanitarian supplies to the country.
