Iran, Norway Keen to Expand Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Vice-Speaker of Iranian Parliament Mohammad Reza Bahonar held a meeting with a senior Norwegian lawmaker, during which he expressed Tehran's willingness to promote cooperation with Oslo.

In his Wednesday meeting with Anniken Huitfeldt, the visiting chair of Norwegian Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense, in Tehran, Bahonar hailed the good capacities of the two countries in the field of economy.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran is interested in mutual cooperation with Norway in such sectors as energy, oil, gas, fishery, and environment," the Iranian lawmaker said.

He further called for encouraging Iranian and Norwegian members of parliament for the expansion of bilateral relations.

Huitfeldt, for her part, expressed the hope that bilateral relations between Tehran and Oslo will further develop, saying that her country is interested in the successful conclusion of nuclear talks between Iran and world powers so that sanctions will be lifted and international firms will invest in Iran.

The Norwegian delegation, led by Huitfeldt, visited Iran at the invitation of chairman of the Iranian parliament's national security and foreign policy commission, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, on a two-day trip started Tuesday.

Iran's parliament has in recent months intensified measures to strengthen ties with parliaments of the other countries, following President Hassan Rouhani's announcement that his administration will adopt the policy of constructive interaction with the world.
