Zarif: Iran seeking talks with West based on mutual respect

TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reiterated that Iran is after talks with the West based on mutual respect.

We want to hold talks with the West based on mutual respect. We do not want to have enmity with the West, Zarif said in an interview with PBS News.

Asked about Iranian Supreme Leaders lack of confidence in the US, he said that it is not only the Supreme Leader who has such a view, but Iranians mainly lack confidence in the US.

Iranians are mainly skeptical about the US motives. It is not good, but it is a reality.

"The point is that Iranian nation has a very strong historical memory. They remember that the US collapsed a government in Iran (before the Islamic Revolution) and supported a repressive regime (Shah regime).

Zarif also said that the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei has recently said that if the ongoing talks (with the G5+1) go well, grounds can be provided for negotiations in other fields.

It means that whether the US is ready to deal with the Iranian nation based on mutual respect.
