Kerry says US will be bound to its obligations towards Iran

New York, April 28, IRNA - US Secretary of State John Kerry said in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif that Washington will honor its obligations towards Iran.

Speaking to Zarif at the residence of Iran's ambassador to the United Nations in New York on Monday, Kerry said if Iran and G5+1 sign a comprehensive nuclear agreement, US will implement the deal and will be bound to it beyond the internal disputes.

Zarif and Kerry discussed efforts to secure a final agreement between Iran and the six powers by a June 30 deadline.

Elsewhere, speaking at the United Nations on the opening day of a month-long conference taking stock of the 1970 nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Kerry underlined that the United States and five other major powers are closer than ever to a deal with Iran.

Kerry added, however, 'the hard work is far from over and some key issues remain unresolved.'

In remarks to Iranian state television upon his arrival in New York, Zarif echoed the concerns about unresolved issues in the talks with the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China.

'Besides taking part in the conference, we have come here to listen to Americans' explanations on the US administration's undertakings and its domestic policies,' Zarif said.
