Tehran, April 26, IRNA Deputy of Iran Civil Aviation Organization Mohammad Khodakarami has said that European countries called for adding to the number of their flights to Iran due to the number of the Iranian population, it was reported on Sunday.
'Noting the population of Iran, foreign airlines are willing to take part in our flights, Khodakarami told Mehr News Agency.
Referring to a MoU signed between Iran and Portugal to establish a flight route, the official said a Greek airline too has asked for launching three flights a week, while Alitalia sought to increase its flights to five per week.
Turkish airlines as well as Air Asia have demanded to raise the number of their flights, the official added.
He noted that 'no airline from American continent' was working in Iran due to the long distance and high costs which make the route so exclusive to some airlines.
However, Khodakarami stressed, 'Two Iranian airlines have the capability of covering the route.
