Irans Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani says 42% of Iranian university graduates are jobless.
Speaking on the sidelines of a cultural ceremony in the northern city of Shahroud, Larijani described inflation and unemployment as two major problems facing Iranian people.
He said unemployment rate among young graduates, which has been recently announced by Irans Statistics Center, is a serious problem and called on authorities to take action to improve the situation.
According to Irans Minister of Labor, Cooperatives and Social Welfare Ali Rabiei the country has to generate about 800,000 jobs a year in order to cope with runaway unemployment.
We cannot afford to wait for an economic growth to create jobs, he says. Hence, the idea of proliferating small business units is being seriously considered by his ministry, Rabiei said earlier this month.
Larijani also said whether the sanction against Iran are lifted or not, the principle of economy of resistance should be implemented to boost economic growth in the country.
Last year, the Leader of Irans Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei outlined general policies of the resistance economy and called on the three branches of the Iranian government to implement the general policies of the resistance economy.
Economy of resistance is aimed at promoting knowledge-based economy and domestic production, especially in strategic products and services, slashing dependence on imports and oil revenues.
