TEHRAN (Tasnim) Irans Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan arrived in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, on Monday for talks on different issues.
The visit came at the invitation of his Azeri counterpart Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov.
The Iranian minister is planned to meet high-ranking Azeri officials to discuss a range of bilateral, regional and international issues, as well as talks on defense cooperation between Tehran and Baku.
A year ago, the Azeri defense minister had paid a two-day official visit to Iran.
During Hasanovs stay in Tehran in April 2014, Dehqan had voiced Irans preparedness to provide Azerbaijan with whatever defensive assistance it needs.
In a sign of close ties between Iran and Azerbaijan, Azeri President Ilham Aliyev also visited Iran in April 2014, and held separate meetings with Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani.
In that meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei had announced that attempts to sabotage the relationship between Tehran and Baku should be thwarted and the two countries people and governments should promote ties day by day with political will and seriousness in pursuing bilateral agreements.
