Iran's Guardian Council spokesman Nejatollah Ebrahimian[/caption]Tehran, March 14, IRNA Guardian Council works based on law, the Council spokesman Nejatollah Ebrahimian said on Saturday.
Speaking at a press conference, he noted that Iran will witness two important elections on the final month of next Iranian calendar year (started March 21).
Political parties have no influence on the Guardian Council and no commotion can affect the council's performance, Ebrahimian added.
He said that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has always advised the Guardian Council to maintain it impartiality in defense of people's vote in all elections.
Ebrahimian advised the Iranian media to care about the country's national security and boost the solidarity among various political factions especially during the election time.
Iran's vetting body, the Guardian Council, agreed with an Interior Ministry proposal for holding the country's next parliamentary elections in February 2016.
The election for choosing members of Irans Assembly of Experts, an overarching body which supervises Irans leadership, will be held on the same day. This will be the first time members of the two major bodies are elected simultaneously.
The Guardian Council is composed of six Islamic jurists who are directly appointed by the Supreme Leader and six lawyers elected by the parliament.
Constitutionally, the council is in charge of vetting candidates for presidential, parliamentary and Experts Assembly elections.
Ensuring compatibility of parliament legislations with Islamic law and the Constitution is among other duties of the body.
