TEHRAN (FNA)- Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in a meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani lauded Iran for its peaceful approach and policy towards his nation.

"Since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, Iran has never created any problem for us and the two countries have had good relations," Al Thani said during the meeting in Doha on Wednesday.

"At present, we also support settlement of the regional problems through talks," he added.

Larijani, for his part, underlined the necessity for increasing economic relations between the two countries as well as settlement of the regional issues.

Larijani visited Qatar after wrapping up a one-day trip to Kuwait.

Upon arrival at Doha airport on Tuesday night, Larijani announced that Tehran and Doha had doubled efforts to increase their economic and trade relations and cooperation.

Speaking to reporters, Larijani said he planned to meet the high-ranking Qatari officials during the visit.

"During this trip, we will try to increase our parliamentary and economic relations with Qatar. Also we will consult on crucial regional issues," he added.

Also, Qatari Speaker Muhammad Bin Mubarak Bin Saleh al-Khalifi welcomed Larijani and his entourage, and said, "Iran and Qatar dont have differences in any fields."

Both Iran and Qatar have recently augmented efforts to further expand ties and cooperation in all the different political, economic, defense, security, judicial and cultural fields.

The two Persian Gulf littoral states recently signed several protocols to increase mutual cooperation.

Last month, Qatari Prime Minister Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani said expansion of economic ties with Iran stood atop his country's agenda.

Speaking in a meeting with Iranian Labor Minister Ali Rabiyee in Doha, the Qatari premiere described Tehran-Doha relations as historical and deep-rooted, and said that private sectors of both sides could play a key role in enhancement of relations between the two neighboring countries.

He meanwhile expressed the hope that he would pay a visit to Iran in near future.

In December, Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri in a message to bin Khalifa al-Thani said Tehran was resolved to promote bilateral relations with Doha.

In his message, Jahangiri extended his congratulations to the Qatari premier, nation and government over the country's national day, and underlined the need for the development of all-out ties between the two friendly nations.
