Tehran, Feb 28, IRNA � Iran and Georgia signed an agreement for international transportation in the course of the 6th session of the Joint Commission for International Transportation Cooperation in the road, commodity and passenger areas.

Mohammad Javad Atrchain, Director General of Transit and Border Terminals of the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization, said on the basis of the agreement the two sides, while exchanging views on the volume of bilateral trade and present statistics on road transportation between Iran and Georgia, expressed satisfaction over the trend of growth in bilateral road transportation cooperation.


He said the two sides discussed the exisiting impediments on the trend of transportation between the countries and the Georgian side raised matters concerning supply of fuel for the Georgian trucks in Iran�s territory and the process of receiving transit permits for Georgian companies carrying goods from Iran.

Expressing readiness of the two countries for the expansion of transit cooperation and provision of the required facilities in this regard, Atrchian noted that the Iranian side within the framework of the expansion of Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) is interested is activation of its own transit corridor through Caucasia and Georgia to Europe.

He added that economic relations between the two countries enjoys growing trend and with an aim of creating the required facilities for taking advantage of bilateral transit capabilities, it was agreed that all the required facilities will be studied by the two sides for making transportation of trucks of the two countries easier.

The agreement for the development of transportation cooperation between Iran and Georgia was signed for Iran by Davoud Keshavarzian, head of the Road Maintenance and Transportation.
