TEHRAN, Feb. 25 (MNA) Iraqi Ministry of Electricity spokesman has said Iran-Iraq gas pipeline project has almost been completed.
Mosaab al-Modares told an Iraqi daily that project of gas pipeline from Iran to Iraq was almost complete, adding that the remaining part in Iraqi territory will be laid in case the security of the regions, through which it is supposed to pass, is guaranteed, Irans state news agency IRNA reported.
The project is a 100-kilometer pipeline starting from Charmaleh in Ilam province to Naft-Shahr on the Iran-Iraq border and will supply gas to al-Mansourieh, al-Sadr and al-Quds refineries.
Al-Modares however added that the military operations still continued in parts of the region through which the pipeline would pass.
According to the contract agreement, Iran will export 4 mcm of gas to Iraq per day during the first phase of the project, which aims at meeting a major portion of Iraq's energy problems and electricity shortage. This figure will rise to 25 mcmin laterphases.
During the operations to lay the pipeline in Iraqi territory, which ended mid-March 2014, 16 Iranian workers were martyred by terrorist groups.
