TEHRAN Feb 18(Shana)--Iran prefers to establish petrochemical plants near sea, the director for projects at National Petrochemical Company said.
Marzieh Shah-Daei said the location is due to the fact that petrochemical plants consume large volumes of water.
Petrochemical industry is water and energy-intensive. That is why many petrochemical units are currently facing water shortage and exports, she said.
Shah-Daei said low precipitation in Iran poses a serious challenge to petrochemical industry development.
