NIGC eyes gas export to Afghanistan

TEHRAN Feb 08(Shana)--The National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) considers the neighboring country Afghanistan as a potential destination for gas exports.
Managing director of NIGC Hamidreza Araqi said the issue hasnot been raised at governmental levelso farbut a number of private sector companies have expressed their willingness for meeting gas needs of the Afghanistan cities located near the border with Iran.
He added that gas export to Afghanistan is feasible and could be done through laying a 100 km pipeline as the Southern Khorasan province gas pipeline offshoot.
Araqi noted that NIGC is ready to provide necessary infrastructures for gas exports to Afghanistan.
Stating that the Islamic Republic of Irans gas production capacity will reach one billion cubic meters per day in next three years, NIGCs managing director said Iran accounts for production of 1.5 percent of world gas output and the figure is planned to rise to 10 percent in 2025.
