TEHRAN (FNA)- Head of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce Gholam-Hossein Shafeyee called for the expansion of economic and trade relations with Singapore, and said Iranian banks are ready to help boost trade exchanges with the South Asian nation.
"Two Iranian banks have voiced their readiness to transfer money between Iran and Singapore and we ask the Singaporean side to review the previous negotiations and pave the way for facilitating transfer of money," Shafeyee said in a meeting with a visiting Singaporean delegation in Tehran on Tuesday.

Shafeyee pointed to the status quo of Iran-Singapore relations, and said, "Iran has cooperated with Singapore in different areas, including repairing ships."

He referred to Iran's unique position for transit of goods, and said, "Singapore can increase the volume of its transit transactions with Iran by taking this opportunity."

A high-ranking Singaporean delegation is in Tehran to pave the ground for the further development of economic cooperation with Iran.

The delegation, comprising tradesmen and senior officials of 30 major Singaporean companies, is visiting Iran on the occasion of the 36th anniversary of victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

The visit is to provide the Singaporean companies with the capacities of Iran's economy.

Members of the delegation will tour Iran's biggest trade and business centers during their one-week stay.

In June, Singaporean Parliament Speaker Halimah Yacob in a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed the hope that trade and economic cooperation between the two countries would further increase.
