Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif speaks during a press conference with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin on January 15, 2015.[/caption]TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reiterated on Tuesday that he is optimistic on the future of Iran-Afghanistan ties.
I am optimistic on the future of Iran and Afghanistan ties. Because Iranian nation has supported Afghan nation in hard days and government formation, Zarif said as he arrived in Iran embassy in Kabul.
He also highlighted Iran-Afghanistan commonalities, and said the two countries have much in common on water, drugs and migrants.
Zarif expressed satisfaction with Afghan national unity government and said, the cabinet represents the whole people. Formation of national unity government is a good opportunity to eradicate drugs, end destructive presence of foreigners and turn Afghanistan into the center of stability and security.
Zarif also met with top United Nations envoy to Afghanistan Nicholas Haysom.
Zarif plans to meet with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai and Afghan governments Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah during his one-day visit.
This is Zarifs first trip to Afghanistan after Kabul formed the government.
Zarif is most likely to submit Iranian President Hassan Rouhanis letter to Ashraf Ghani to visit Iran as soon as possible.
