Envoy: Constructive engagement saves Iran-Egypt shared interests

Cairo, Jan 18, IRNA Head of Iran Interest Section in Egypt said here Saturday constructive engagement between the two major Islamic countries will not only save both nations' mutual interests, but are necessary under prevailing regional conditions.
'Understanding the roles and regional influence of both the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Arab Republic of Egypt, and in order to secure the shared interests and expediencies of the two countries, as well as those of all Islamic world countries, the strategy of constructive interaction and cooperation between the two countries must be pursued,' said Mohammad Mahmoudian.
The head of the Iranian interest section made the comment in a meeting with the prominent Egyptian thinker and veteran journalist Muhammad Hasanain Heikal, praising the depth of his thoughts in elaborating the historical developments, especially on prevailing regional and international developments and viewpoints on Iran.

Heikal, too, in the meeting referred to his meeting with the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the late Imam Khomeini (P) in Paris and after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Tehran, emphasizing on his basic pro-Iranian stands in various regional developments.

He also predicted that cooperation and interaction between Iran and the Arab countries will lead to the elimination of some erroneous misconceptions on both sides and a way to ensure both the Iranian and the Arab countries' interests in the regional and international scenes.

The two sides in the meeting also exchanged viewpoints in the latest regional and international developments and sought ways for major Islamic countries' role paling in crisis resolving in the region and the world, especially in campaign against the malignant terrorism phenomenon.
