Tehran, Dec 28, IRNA - Chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi conferred on Sunday with the Director General of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Mahboub Maalim on expansion of mutual cooperation.
��In the meeting, Boroujerid said it is vital for both sides to exchange views and experiences in security and environment issues.
Expansion of cooperation with African countries is on the agenda of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Boroujerdi said.

He said that there exists ample of political, economic and security cooperation between Iran and countries in the African continent leading to expansion of cooperation and the economic development.

The issue of terrorism is the common concern of the contemporary era, Boroujerdi said adding that the nature of all terrorist groups in the world is carnage and promotion of insecurity and that the terrorists consider good and bad is in line with the instrumental use of the United States in misusing this phenomenon.

Expansion of cooperation and exchange of views and experiences on security issues and the environment protection between Iran and IGAD is of prime importance, he said.

IGAD director general, for his part, praised Iran's support to African countries and said the Islamic Republic of Iran has always backed deprived African nations and has spared no efforts to help them with carrying out development projects in Africa and the security issues.

Iran has also helped the African states to maintain their stability and security in the African continent, he said.

Presence of Iran at IGAD as an observer is welcomed and creates a suitable opportunity for bolstering of cooperation, expansion of cooperation and transfer of experience, he said.

IGAD was established in the year 1986 with the aim of preventing regional crisis, bolstering economic infrastructure, food security, and environment protection among member states comprising Djibouti, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya and Somalia.
