Iran condemns terrorist attack in Iraq’s capital

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned a Wednesday suicide attack in southern Baghdad that killed dozens of Iraqis fighting against Takfiri terrorist groups.

In a message on Thursday, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham decried the bloody attack as a “passive move” and “an act of revenge” by the terrorists in reaction to the recent victories the Iraqi military and voluntary forces could gain in the face of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants.

She also expressed condolences to the Iraqi government and nation and the bereaved families of victims of the terrorist attack.

Afkham also expressed the confidence that the Iraqi army and voluntary forces would continue to inflict more defeats on the terrorist group in light of “national unity and the spiritual support given by the religious authorities.”

On Wednesday, a suicide bomber attacked the fighters opposed to the ISIL terrorist group as they had gathered to receive salaries in an area south of Baghdad, killing at least 38 people.

The attack on the members of the Sahwa (Awakening) movement near a military base in the Madain area also wounded at least 56 others.
