TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran and the UAE are planning to ease visa requirements for each other's nationals.
The two countries took the decision in their 9th joint consular commission meeting in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
During the meeting, deputy foreign ministers of Iran and the UAE signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), an article of which was about facilitation of visa for nationals of one another.
Continuation of judicial cooperation to efficiently counter drug-trafficking, as well as enhancement of cooperation between the coast guards of Iran and the UAE were among other issues of agreement upon in the memorandum of understanding.
The one-day meeting was co-chaired by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister on Consular, Parliamentary and Expatriates Affairs Hassan Qashqavi and UAE Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Jarman.
Iran attaches importance to strengthening ties with the Middle East's countries in a bid to maintain security in the region.
Iran's President Hassan Rouhani and Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr in a meeting in Tehran in February discussed the latest regional developments and stressed the need to expand the two sides' all-out cooperation.
President Rouhani said Iran was bent on promoting its relations with Muslim countries, particularly with its neighbors.
Our good neighborly relations can pave the way for the expansion of ties among all Persian Gulf littoral states, the Iranian president underlined.
He added that the two sides had great capacities for enhancing trade and economic ties and strengthening bilateral cooperation given the ongoing appropriate international circumstances.
Iran and the (United Arab) Emirates can expand their cooperation in the fight against terrorism and extremism, President Rouhani pointed out.
