TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Ambassador to Paris Ali Ahani blasted the world powers for their efforts to manage global issues in a unilateral way, and said military intervention and double-standard approaches are the root causes of terrorism.
"Some big powers and regional states attempted to use terrorism as a tool to destabilize certain governments in the Middle-East, but these (terrorist) groups have backfired on them," Ahani said, addressing a conference on 'The Geopolitics of Terrorism' in Paris.
He called on ISIL supporters to stop financial and political support for terrorism, and said, "The root cause of terrorism is the unpopular and non-populist administration of the world, military intervention and the double-standard behavior towards terrorism."
Ahani further underlined that regional cooperation is needed to fight terrorism.
In relevant remarks in September, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Seyed Abbas Araqchi underscored the necessity for consistent and unbiased campaign on the terrorist groups, including the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), in all countries without discrimination.
"Consistency in fighting ISIL wherever it is present, be it in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon or elsewhere, and whoever it threatens, is a must," Araqchi said, addressing the Security Council debate on the Situation Concerning Iraq.
"A successful fight against the ISIL requires helping and enabling the relevant central authorities to deal with this menace. Any strategy that undermines these authorities, including the Syrian Government that resisted ISIL for few years, or differentiates between segments of population in terms of protection will be a recipe for defeat," he added.
