2014 has been a particularly devastating year for Palestinians, who continue to suffer under occupation and who continue to be robbed of their homes, their development and in many cases, their lives, UNRWA Deputy Commissioner-General Margot Ellis said at an event in the Swiss city of Geneva on Tuesday.
The UNRWA also launched an appeal for USD 414 million to support the Palestinians living in the occupied territories.
The emergency assistance provided by UNRWA and other UN agencies represents a lifeline for Palestine refugees in the occupied Palestinian territory, many of whom cannot survive without such assistance, Ellis added.
Human rights monitor Amnesty International said on Tuesday that Israel committed war crimes during the latest war on the besieged Gaza Strip.
Amnesty wants to be allowed access to Gaza and also calls for a UN inquiry into the war, a request which Israel has so far refused.
The latest Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, which started on July 8 and ended on August 26 killed at least 2,140 Palestinians and injured thousands of others.
Nearly 89,000 Palestinian homes have been damaged in the Israeli military campaign. A total of 15,000 homes have been either leveled to the ground or badly damaged that are no more habitable.
