Iranian twosome turn over a new page in the countrys history of beach volleyball by becoming the first-ever Iranian team to qualify for main draw at a World Tour event.
On Tuesday, the team, comprising Saber Houshmand and Bahman Salemi, took on the home team in Mangaung, South Africa, as part of the International Federation of Volleyball (FIVB) Beach Volleyball Mangaung Open.
The two-pronged athletic juggernaut overpowered Keifer Govender and Jerome Fredericks 2-1 (19-21, 21-9, 15-10), despite the Open marking their first event together.
Houshmand said, Its the first time me and my partner played on the World Tour and also the first time in main draw. So we are proud.
The first match of the day saw Australia also securing a main draw against the United States.
