Iran, UNESCO to have cultural cooperation

Tehran, Dec 10, IRNA Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati, in a meeting with Director and Representative of UNESCO Tehran Cluster Office, called for expansion of cultural, educational and media cooperation between Iran and the office.
Jannati, in a meeting with Kuisch Laroche, expressed hope that with the presence of the director of UNESCO Cluster Office in Iran, the two sides witness expansion of relations between Islamic Republic of Iran and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
He said since the Cluster Office covers Iran, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and Pakistan, it has much importance, adding that the office can play a special role in promotion of ties between Iran and UNESCO.

Jannati said his Ministry is ready for cooperation with UNESCO Tehran Cluster Office.

'We expect the office to try to promote educational, cultural and communication relations between Iran and the UN body,' he added.

He said that Iran expects that the office support Iran's plans and programs in UNESCO specialized commissions as well as in UNESCO General Conference.

Referring to President Hassan Rouhani's proposal in the UN General Assembly for a 'World against Violence and Extremism' and its approval, Jannati said that the proposal underlined that instead of coalition for war, it is better to be united for peace and tranquility in the world.

The minister said that culture and cultural views to the world issues can eliminate many of existing challenges in the world level.

Kuisch Laroche expressed pleasure with being in Iran and said that Iran and UNESCO have always had good cooperation for a long time.

Referring to a number of activities of UNESCO Cluster Office in Iran, Laroche said that the office would be active in fields of education, pedagogy, science, cultural , communication and information in Iran.

Referring to emphasis of the minister on training the cultural attachs of Iran in other countries, Laroche said that the idea is very good and UNESCO can have good cultural and training cooperation with the attaches.
