Russia and Iran signed an agreement on the exchange of operational information on drug crops and drug laboratories and on conducting joint operations to find and intercept illegal drugs and those who traffic them.MOSCOW, December 8 (Sputnik) Russia and Iran onMonday adopted a joint plan tocounterillegal drug manufacture, smuggling and use overthe next four years.
The two countries intend "to develop mechanisms forthe exchange ofoperational information, including information ondrug crops and drug laboratories, and forthe conducting ofjoint search operations inline withnational legislation, including controlled deliveries, toshut downthe smuggling ofdrugs," according tothe agreement signed.
Moscow and Tehran also agreed toexchange information ondrug transit fromAfghanistan, including the use ofthe Caspian Sea.
Decisions were also made toimprove information exchange ondrug traffickers, their routes, investigating new types ofillicit drugs aswell asmembers ofthe financial community used bydrug dealers tolaunder criminal proceeds.
Russia and Iran will exchange experience, organization and resources tofind and intercept illegal drugs and those who traffic them. The countries pledged toimprove treatment fordrug addicts and increase the teaching ofdrug prevention.
During Monday's meeting, Russia and Iran also agreed tobring the issue ofeliminating drug production inAfghanistan beforethe UN General Assembly in2016.
"It is important topropose including the issue ofthe importance ofeliminating the Afghan drug production inthe agenda ofthe special session ofthe UN General Assembly in2016 onthe global drug problem," a statement issued onthe meeting said.
Moscow and Tehran agreed toinitiate broad discussions indifferent international arenasonthe global problemoflarge-scale heroin and cocaine production.
The document was signed inMoscow byRussian Federal Drug Control Service Chief Viktor Ivanov and Iran's Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli.
