TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Esmayeel Mahsouli announced that his ministry has extended an exports deal with Iraq to supply the neighboring country with 1000-1300 MW of electricity.Mahsouli said that the price of power exports to Iraq has not changed.
"The price of power export is similar to the previous one with no change," the official said.
Mahsouli went on to say that the deal has been extended for another one year.
Last month, a provincial official said that Iran's Southwestern province of Khuzestan exported over 3.5 billion kilowatts of electricity to Iraq in the first seven months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-October 22), showing approximately 35 percent of growth in comparison with the same period last year.
3.5 billion KW of electricity was transferred to Iraq through two 400-kilowatt electricity transition lines, Managing Director of Khuzestan Province Electricity Company Mahmoud Janqorban said at the time.
He added that Khuzestan province electricity exports to Iraq increased 35% in those seven months compared to the similar period of the previous year, which was totally 2.7 billion kilowatts.
Khuzestan province produces one seventh of Irans electricity currently.
Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the overthrow of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, during the 2003 US invasion of the Muslim country.
