Iranian pilgrims entering Iraq through Mehran border need no visa
Ilam, December 4, IRNA Governor of Vaset province and Iraqs Interior Ministry have agreed to lift visa-on-border requirement, and therefore, Iranian pilgrims of Imam Hussain (AS) on anniversary of 40th day of his martyrdom can enter Iraq through Mehran border needles of visas.
The Governor of Irans Ilam province Mohammad Reza Morvarid said in an interview with IRNA that the decision was made to make easier the passage of the Iranian pilgrims, on condition that their valid passports will have the exit stamp of the Iranian border police.
He said that the decision was made after a huge number of the Iranian pilgrims were urged to wait for long hours at the Iran-Iraq borders for receiving the visa stamps of the Iraqi police for 1,200 Iraqi Dinars ($1).

The governor of Ilam said that presenting the payment bill of 125,000 Rial (3.5 US dollars) Iranian exit charge, which is payable in all branches of Bank Melli Iran and valid Iranian passports will be sufficient for entering Iraq through Mehran border.

Morvarid said that Iran's Mehran Border Terminal is capable of offering services to 30,000 pilgrims per day, but the passage of more pilgrims will lead to delays in passing through the border.

The governor advised all the pilgrims who intend to attend the rituals on the anniversary of the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (PBUH), known as Arbaeen can during the remaining days to the occasion (Dec 13) gradually and patiently enter Iraq through Mehran border.

The Mehran International Border located at a 90 kilometer distance to the southwest of Ilam provinces capital city, Ilam, is nowadays very crowded due to the presence of Imam Hussians pilgrims who are mostly paying their pilgrimages on foot.
