TEHRAN, Nov. 13 (MNA) Irans deputy-foreign minister for Arab and African Affairs has said Iran would dismiss foreign intervention in regional affairs in Iraq and Syria.
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and French deputy-foreign minister Jean-Franois Girault on Thursday discussed the latest regional developments. Amir-Abdollahian blamed some countries who 'fuel the fire of crisis and war as having destructive effect on the political routes of solving the Middle East crises.
Both officials discussed Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, and fighting against extremism and terrorism. Girault believed that Iran was an important partner in the region and stressed the cooperation between his country and Iran to solve the crisis in the region drawing upon their historical influence over the region especially Lebanon. Both countries evaluate Lebanese security and territorial integrity as important and should facilitate restoring peace in the country, he added, The Lebanese should decide on the choosing of their president and it is their own internal affair to agree upon; however, Iran and France should facilitate the process, Girault said.
He stated that Frances official policy in Iraq was to support al-Ebadis government, and commended the measures taken by Iraqi government to develop political participation.
Girault said that French and Iranian positions were in harmony in Iraq and emphasized on Irans key role in standing by Iraqi government when the ISIL found footprints in Iraq, and believed that without Irans support, the terrorist group would take over Baghdad.
He assessed the danger of ISIL as all-embracing; Fighting the Islamic State requires sustainable efforts and cooperation, Girault added.
Both sides emphasized on cooperation with UN special envoy to Syria Staffande Mistura. Amir-Abdollahian criticized inaccurate positions by some foreign players in the region. Fighting terrorism entails strong will; however, seeking any regime change in Syria inevitably extends drawbacks on Lebanon and the whole region as well, said the deputy-FM. Now, Iran and regional countries have fairly similar positions about the developments in the region especially in Syria, Amir-Abdollahian said.
He denounced some foreign interventions and misguided attempts to arm the so-called 'more moderate Syrian opposition' as a new strategic error of judgment on Syria.
Amir-Abdollahian said that the 4-point plan by Irans foreign minister would still serve to help solve Syrian crisis. He believed Iraqi unity and territorial integrity as important. The Islamic Republic of Iran supports the current political process in Iraq and is optimistic about the future of the country; Tehran strongly supports Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and all countries subject to the threat of terrorism, he asserted.
Amir-Abdollahian emphasized that Tehran and Paris would play more active roles in the region, and that Iran welcomes sharing of opinions by Paris on regional issues, and we could reach joint cooperation from joint discussions.
