TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Intelligence Minister Seyed Mahmoud Alawi announced on Wednesday that the country's forces have foiled bombing plots in the Central city of Qom during the Moharram mourning ceremonies (October 26-November 4).
"During the mourning days of Moharram (lunar) month this year, some sought to plant bombs in Qom city but they were arrested before doing any action," Alawi said in the Western city of Hamedan today.
People in Iran and other countries throughout the world mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hossein (PBUH) on the first ten days of Moharram.
Alawi also said several other plots for staging suicide attacks were thwarted by the Iranian intelligence forces during the international Quds day rallies (July 25) in a number of provinces' capital cities, adding that the assailants had worn suicide vests.
He underlined that even the slightest moves of the enemy are monitored and discovered by the intelligence ministry.
In relevant remarks, Iranian Deputy Interior Minister for Law Enforcement and Security Affairs Brigadier General Hossein Zolfaqari announced in October that Iranian border guards had thwarted terrorist plots for carrying out 24 suicide attacks on the country since the start of the current (Iranian) year (March 21).
"24 groups have failed in their plots for waging 24 suicide attacks in Iran, thanks to the timely presence of the border guards," Zolfaqari told reporters in Tehran.
"The border guards have even annihilated one or two (terrorist) groups before they could cross border with Iran," he added.
