Fish and Cat wins NETPAC award in Australia

Acclaimed Iranian cinematic creation Fish and Cat has won the award of Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) in the Iranian Film Festival Australia (IFFA).
Directed by Shahram Mokri, the horror drama won the highly coveted best film award in the fourth edition of the IFFA.

The film was also screened in several Australian cities, including Melbourne, Adelaide and Sidney.

The 127-minute movie depicts the story of a group of university students who face different problems during their trip to the north of Iran.

The film is scheduled to be screened as one of the 15 main film titles at the 24th Oslo International Film Festival, which will be held in late November.

Produced by Kanoon Iran Novin, Fish and Cat has participated in many international events so far.

Shot in one continuous sequence, the psychodrama secured two top awards at the 28th Fribourg International Film Festival held in Switzerland.

The film has received the FIPRESCI Jury (International Federation of the Cinematic Press) as well as the Youth Jury Award.

The movie also won the Special Orizzonti Award for Innovative Content at the 70th edition of the Venice International Film Festival.

Many critics believe that Mokris screen representation is an innovative and technically impressive film.

Im Not Angry! by Reza Dormishian, The Painting Pool by Maziar Miri and Snow by Mehdi Rahmani were also among the competitors at the 2014 IFFA.

The Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) is a worldwide organization of 29 member countries.

The NETPAC Award is given at the selected international film festivals to promote Asian cinema by spotlighting exceptional films and discovering new talents.
