TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani reiterated that the recent victory of the Republicans in the US Senate elections will not leave much impact on the negotiations between Iran and the six world powers (the US, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany).


"I do not see the changes in the US Senate as very influential on the trend of the nuclear negotiations because the Democrats and Republicans share similar views in areas of national security and interests," Larijani told reporters on Saturday.

He underlined that the outcome of the US Senate elections might influence the role played by the US Senate, but what matters is the role that the US administration will play vis-�-vis the Senate.

Larijani's remarks came after Republicans in the US made significant gains in mid-term elections, capturing a majority of seats they need to take control of the US Senate.

The Republicans gained the majority of the US Senate as Iran and the six major world powers have already held 8 rounds of nuclear negotiations after inking an interim agreement in Geneva on November 24, 2013, and have less than three weeks time to strike a final deal before the November 24 deadline.Tehran and the six powers have had seven rounds of talks in Vienna, and one more in New York and on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. They are now preparing for their 9th round of negotiations due to be held in Masqat, Oman, on November 11.

The Geneva agreement took effect on January 20 and expired six months later on July 20. In July, Tehran and the six countries agreed to extend negotiations until November 24 after they failed to reach an agreement on a number of key issues.
