TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will pay an official visit to Baku in coming days in a bid to discuss further expansion of bilateral ties and mutual cooperation with senior Azeri officials, senior lawmakers in Baku announced on Sunday.
The announcement was made in a meeting between the visiting Iranian parliamentary delegation, headed by Moayed Hosseini Sadr, and heads of agriculture, social security and economy commissions of Azerbaijan's parliament in Baku today.
The Azeri lawmakers noted that President Rouhani will arrive in their country before November 15.
During the meeting, the heads of the Azeri parliamentary commissions proposed President Rouhani to deliver a speech at the Azeri parliament about the landscape of Iran-Azerbaijan relations.
During the meeting, Hosseini Sadr pointed to the religious and cultural commonalities of Iran and Azerbaijan, and said, "Expansion of parliamentary relations between the two countries within the framework of friendship groups will result in the further expansion of political and friendly relations between Iran and Azerbaijan and pave the way for mutual cooperation in other areas."
The Azeri lawmakers, for their part, said that the relations between the parliaments of Iran and Azerbaijan will facilitate the relations between the two countries' private sectors and cause closer relations between the two governments.
Last month, President Rouhani in a meeting with his Azeri counterpart Ilham Aliyev in Astrakhan, Russia, asked for vigilance against the plots hatched to harm the two countries' diplomatic relations.
"The security and development of Iran and Azerbaijan are interconnected and we should not allow those countries that are against progress in Tehran-Baku friendly relations to disrupt such ties," President Rouhani said during the meeting in Astrakhan.
The Iranian president reiterated that Iran and Azerbaijan should boost their mutual cooperation on regional and international issues, and said, "Tehran and Baku should adopt coordinated stances in the international bodies."
President Aliyev underlined that Iran-Azerbaijan security is interwoven, and said, "The Azeri nation and government are keen to expand mutual cooperation with Iran in all areas."
Tehran has in recent years focused seriously on development of ties with neighboring countries, including Republic of Azerbaijan which enjoys various commonalties with Iran in religious, historical and cultural fields.
