TEHRAN (FNA)- Vice-Chairman of Iran's Assembly of Experts Ayatollah Seyed Mahmoud Shahroudi in a meeting with Iraqi Oil Minister Adel Abdelmahdi underlined the necessity for resolving the security problems in Iraq.
During the meeting in Tehran on Wednesday, Shahroudi expressed satisfaction over the establishment of the Iraqi cabinet, stressing the need for solidarity among all the country's coalition forces.
Shahroudi called on the Iraqi government to make further efforts to improve life standards in Iraq and render further services to solve the security problems.
Abdelmahdi, for his part, referred to convergence among all the political groups in Iraq, underscoring that the government is determined to remove shortcomings and counter the extremist groups, including the ISIL.
Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the overthrow of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, during the 2003 US invasion of the Muslim country.
Also on Tuesday, Iran and Iraq, once again, emphasized their determination to widen and deepen security cooperation in fight against terrorist and extremist groups, particularly against the ISIL.
In a meeting between Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani and Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, the Iranian official said that restless campaign against Takfiri terrorists and their supporters stands atop Iran-Iraq cooperation agenda.
Continuous close cooperation between the two countries aimed at boosting both countries strategic capabilities and the two nations interests are vital, he added.
Al-Abadi, for his part, said that the Iraqi government and nation would never forget Irans effective cooperation and contributions in campaign against terrorism in Iraq.
My country is today engaged in a full scale, comprehensive war against terrorism and is determined to uproot the sedition of terrorism in Iraq relying on the brave Iraqi combatants, the premier said.
