TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian and Japanese officials, in a meeting in Tokyo on Tuesday, explored new ways for boosting mutual cooperation in various scientific and technological fields.


In a meeting between Iran's Vice-President for Scientific and Technological Affairs Sorena Sattari and Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Kyosuke Shimamura, the two sides called for expansion of scientific cooperation.

The Japanese minister underlined Iran's potentials and status in scientific and technological arenas, and called for expansion of mutual cooperation with Tehran.

He also voiced Tokyo's readiness to absorb more Iranian students to continue their education in the Japanese universities.

Sattari, who has traveled to Tokyo to participate in the 11th annual Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum, voiced Iran's full support for the science-based companies.

Diplomatic relations between Iran and Japan were formally established in 1926 and throughout history, the two countries have maintained a friendly and strongly cooperation in various arenas.

The two countries' officials have held talks in different economic, trade, political and cultural fields in recent years to explore new ways of expanding bilateral ties.

Iran is one of the main oil suppliers to Japan.
