AEOI chief: West's hostilities derive from Iran's growing clout in region

TEHRAN (FNA)- Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi blasted the western states for their unfounded allegations against Iran, and said the West's enmities are rooted in their fear of Iran's increasing power and influence in the region.
"They want to use every opportunity and unfortunately show their nature of enmity with the Islamic Republic," Salehi said on Sunday.

"It is very hard for them to see that a developing country has managed to find a position in the international arena and play a special role in the interactions," he added.

His remarks came after British Prime Minister David Cameron's speech at the 69th session of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday about the fight against the ISIL terrorist group in Iraq in which he raised anti-Iran allegations.

Cameron's statements were condemned by Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham on Thursday who said that they indicated the continuation of London's self-centered outlooks.

Also on Saturday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani lashed out at Cameron for his anti-Iran comments, and said such remarks are rooted in London's intense fear of the terrorism which has been created by Britain.

"You shouldnt speak like this; you are nervous and the ISIL (the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) is its cause since you have helped it and now it has turned into a problem," Larijani said, addressing Cameron in a ceremony in Tehran.

Stressing that fearing a heinous group like the ISIL was a true fear, he said the British officials who need Iran in their fight against the terrorist group shouldnt speak like "Pharaohs" and use orders to meet their needs.

"Instead of admitting to your past mistakes in aiding the terrorists, you are now using a language which will not lead to meeting your needs," Larijani said.
