TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's President Hassan Rouhani expressed concern over the spread of unilateralism in the contemporary world order, and called on international bodies, elites, intellectuals and political figures to do their best to establish a more fair global system.


Addressing a meeting participated by the Iranian professors and university students in New York on Saturday, President Rouhani termed sanctions (against independent nations) as �wrong and inhumane moves�, and added that unilateralism is a wrong and meaningless approach that leads nowhere, while multilateralism and (constructive) interactions are the right and appropriate policies.

In May, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif criticized the current world order, and called for a new world order in which the nations' economic and technological advantages are preferred to their military might.

At a transitional period when the bipolar world has ended and the unipolar world has not taken shape yet, the time for voluntary isolation has gone and every nation prefers to interact with the other members of the international community to secure its standing and institutionalize influence in decision making of the international community, Zarif wrote in a foreword to the book titled as "Diplomacy at the Age of Globalization, from Theory to Practice".

Late in November 2013, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Seyed Abbas Araqchi emphasized that the UN should move to make political reforms and serve the nations� common interests.

�The UN reforms must reflect changes in the international system, particularly the increasing role of the developing countries, nations� right to determine their own fate and their right to use scientific progress and modern technologies,� Araqchi stated, adding that Iran has always presented constructive proposals for the UN reforms.
