TEHRAN Sep. 2 (Shana)--The largest gas storage facility in the Middle East is expected to be inaugurated in Iran next week.
Shourijeh gas facility, which can supply 20 mcm/d of gas in winter, is to be launched in northeastern Iran.
Shourijeh gas storage facility is to increase Irans gas delivery capacity by more than 9 mcm next winter.
The volume of gas injection into the facility currently stands at 7.5 mcm/d.
A refinery with the processing capacity of 20 mcm of gas is operating in this facility.
The storage facility will supply gas to North Khorasan, Khorasan Razavi, Mazandaran, Guilan and even Ardebil provinces in north, northeast and northwest of Iran.
Iran would no longer need to import gas from eastern neighbors.
Over the coming seven months, 5 mcm/d of gas would have been stored in Shourijeh. Next winter, 9 mcm/d of gas could be withdrawn from this facility.
Shourijeh facility, located 25 kilometers southeast of Sarakhs in northwestern Iran, can store up to 4.8 bcm of gas. The storage facility has a refinery with the capacity of 20 mcm/d.
