TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian men's national volleyball team trounced Italy 3-1 in their opening match of the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship on Sunday.
The Iranian mens national volleyball team overpowered Italy 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-21 and 25-22) in Krakow, Poland, this afternoon.
The 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship matches are underway in Poland from August 30 to September 21, 2014.
The National Iranian volleyball team ranked fourth in the FIVB 2014 World League, gaining the best title among the Asian teams which have participated in the 25-year history of the league.
Brazil (9 times), Italy (8 times), Russia (3 times), Cuba (once), the Netherlands (once), Poland (once) and the US (twice) are the seven countries which have won the World League during its previous 24 editions. Serbia and France join as the only countries to have medaled in the past.
Mir Saeed Ma'roof, Mehdi Mahdavi, Seyed Mohammad Moussavi, Adel Gholami, Armin Tashakori, Saman Faezi, Shahram Mahmoudi, Farhad Zarif, Amir Ghafour, Abdolreza Alizadeh, Farhad Ghaemi, Pourya Fayyazi, Milad Ebadi Pour and Mojtaba Mirza-Janpour have been called by Iran's coach to joint the camp, while two of the country's icons Alireza Nadi and Hamzeh Zarrini are absent in his list.
Iran will play their next match against US on 2 September.
