Iran foreign minister to visit Italy next week for talks

Irans Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will visit Italy next week to hold talks with senior Italian officials, the Iranian Embassy in Rome says.
According to the embassy, Zarif will arrive in the Italian capital, Rome, on Wednesday and is scheduled to meet with Italian officials, including Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini.

The planned visit will take place on the invitation of the Italian foreign minister and will be Zarifs second visit to Italy as the Iranian foreign minister.

Prior to his visit to Rome, Zarif will head to Luxembourg and Belgium, where he will meet with EU foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, in Brussels on Monday to discuss the latest developments surrounding negotiations between Iran and six world powers on Tehrans nuclear energy program.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council the United States, France, Britain, Russia and China plus Germany are in talks to reach a final agreement aimed at resolving the standoff over Tehrans civilian nuclear work.

The two sides signed a historic interim deal in the Swiss city of Geneva last November. The agreement entered into force on January 20 and expired six months later. In July, Tehran and the six states agreed to extend their negotiations until November 24 in a bid to work out a final accord.

The next round of talks between Iran and the six countries will be held in New York in September.
